A lot of interviews for engineering and technical jobs, that have nothing to do with data science, include questions related to extremely complex data science issues. And if you don’t know these things they won’t hire you. This monoculture is ridiculous. But it does tend to result in the hiring of people who are kind of robots who can work for a tech company without any conscious. So if the company does things like advertising and manipulating people’s behavior, such people are less likely to complain. And that’s what they want.
