And why aren't we just ignoring most of these trolls? We are giving them what they want...attention. Every time you post something about somebody like this, ask yourself the question, is responding to them (directly or indirectly) helping them, helping the cause, or helping you get attention? There are ways to combat this without giving them attention.

You don't need to say their name, you don't need to repeat their assertions which are only to get attention. And you certainly don't need to argue with their insane assertions, which are just that (to get attention - they don't care about details, facts, analysis, understanding people, etc.) You can make a statement that there are many trolls out there, mention what motivates them (e.g. getting attention, feeling like a hero because they're depressed) and then focus on positive things.
