As a trans woman what you’re saying makes sense. I also prefer people to talk about their lives instead of making it all theatrical. But I do understand that if you make it all serious, it’s hard to get attention and engage people. So adding some entertainment really helps. I just saw a show last night where a trans woman told her story - very serious topics, and mixed it with reenactments, music, some serious, some fun, went over really well and the audience learned a lot. I much prefer that over the many out there who make it all goofy or angry theatrics.
I myself wrote a book about going straight to trans, and now have a musical based on the book being performed in NYC. It’s brings you through the emotions of this difficult path with a wide variety of music (inspirational, angry, funny, sexy, goofy, etc), and the struggles I went through trying to be myself and fighting others who are trying to control or humiliate me is something so many of us go through regardless of our sex and sexual orientation.
