For years I’ve been trying to emphasize to friends and when I do Public speaking this very thing- don’t get caught up in the drama of the elections, we must all be involved as activists or give money to those who are activists (eg NGO). But most people just don’t get how we are all being manipulated by propaganda, and people just can’t resist the simplicity and drama of chatting about the latest pile of bullshit being disseminated and simply considering yourself to be in the right. Activism takes work — detailed reading across the spectrum, regular engagement, compromise, planning, follow through, physically showing up, monitoring results, etc — -a job best done by people who are being paid like lobbyists and sadly to a much lesser extent paid activists (eg via NGO’s).
