From George Washintgon's Inaugural address: "The preservation of the sacred fire of liberty and the destiny of the republican model of government are justly considered, perhaps, as deeply, as finally, staked on the experiment entrusted to the hands of the American people."

Well I guess this proves the experiment in democracy he referred to has failed. There are too many people who are too stupid, too gullible, or too selfish for this to work.
