Great interview! I live mostly as a woman, but work remotely and present online at work as a man. There is no doubt men have it much easier. I find it interesting that what I consider “feminine characteristics”…caring about a problem and understanding it at multiple levels vs “masculine characteristics” ..trying to just look good and get tasks done, are marginalized at work. It’s extremely frustrating and it used to make me feel like I was out of touch with the work world.
But i eventually discovered that I can double down and push through my “feminine” goals by delivering them with a punch through my male tools/persona. That was very effective. The interesting part is that in general senior management regardless of gender will generally respond better to these “feminine” goals—as they are in general (but not always more sophisticated / experienced — vs other people, especially middle management who are too busy fighting to claw for status)
