Great writeup, but consider this. When I was a lobbyist two things frustrated me:
1) The vast majority of politicians and lobbyists are essentially on the take. They do what their $ sponsors ask them to do. This is a really simple playbook, especially considering that they’re not nearly smart enough to know difference between a good plan and a crappy one (especially the politicians), lobbyists are a little smarter.
2) The TOTAL lack of engagement of the populace in understanding and “lobbying” for what they believe in. Sure folks talk alot at parties and blab on social media, but that’s about it. Blabbing about what you believe in is basically a little sport where you hope your team wins to give you a sense of identity and purpose. Actually putting work in to understand the various sides of an issue and engage discussions and motivating people in a committed way over an extended period of time is just too much work.
Which one annoyed me more? #2 by far. I expect politicians and lobbyists to be on the take, that’s their job.
