I absolutely agree, yes it's shameless how people try to bait others to tear them down, this is probably a huge factor in this.

But SOME trans people do have such extreme beliefs, I have personally met and interacted with several of them. Whether or not these isolated incidents have been used against trans people via amplification on social media vs. the crazy claims about trans people being 100% made up is debatable.
