I was a green energy lobbyist and can assert from personal experience that yes, it is our collective responsibility to get involved and we don’t. Instead we now post on social media to make ourselves feel involved, and don’t realize that this is a distraction from us getting off the couch to actively engage and follow up. We also don’t distinguish between people with actual experience (eg experts, lobbyists, activists) vs the other 99% who are just complaining about something they don’t understand. And Washington is banking on this.

I’m left thinking that democracy just doesn’t work in a globalized, technology world (vs China and a tech oligarchy) I’ve tried really hard and was shocked at what I found…it was way worse than I could possibly have imagined. The concentration of power and the use of propaganda powered by many decades of expertise in advertising and selling pop culture, is no match for tribal humans.

And correct, there is nobody in charge of the herd and no way to tell them that they are charging towards a cliff.
