I was an environmental lobbyist and I gave up. It seems hopeless, impossible to garner the resources, focus, strategies and action to do anything. It was hard finding any support. It was hard putting together a logical plan. People like to talk about this issue, but it’s a whole other thing to muster the power to do anything about it. There are few organizations willing to put up the money for political action — who financially gains by investing in the Earth? Eg when I was doing cybersecurity lobbying (improving liability laws and compliance requirements) insurance and compliance companies, and the American Banking Associations put up the money. They are very organized and skilled in getting things done efficiently. The hodgepodge of environment organizations are not in comparison.

I’m thinking young people need to galvanize action and older folks need to provide guidance on navigating the politics and organizational skills to do this. Our youth have the greatest incentive and the most time to go down this long arduous path (older folks are busy working to pay their mortgage and planning for their retirement).
