I work in managing risk, cybersecurity. I previously worked in environmental lobbying. Whenever a topic is complex or results are hard to measure, people will usually chose the simplest explanation or the one that saves money and can be done quickest regardless of quality. (Ie people tend to not care about the truth because fee really know what it is)
