I would think corporate incentives were in alignment..make as much money short term as possible. Shareholders are too misinformed or stupid to know the tradeoffs in short term profits and risk / long term profits. This is a very difficult problem to solve without The Board stepping in to ensure compliance with best practices (eg identifying risks transparently) and auditing. Of course The Board is usually too ignorant or downright stupid to understand this. And they really don’t have an incentive either, they are usually lousy fiduciaries.
