I’m going to be totally blunt about my experience and attitude on the environment , because this topic is too important to be otherwise:

- I was an environmental lobbyist and activist and quit because I got ZERO support and engagement from people. Even from people who claimed on social media posts and at parties that they care deeply. Reminder: “Organized green is more effective than disorganized democracy”
- People over approx 40 years old on average will not lift one finger to support this issue. We are too busy focusing on the comforts of middle age and preparing for retirement. We’ll be dead before the shit hits the fan.
- Younger people are more inclined to engage, because the shit IS going to hit their fan. They also appear to be less materialistic. But they don’t have the wisdom that the older generation has. Too bad we generally don’t work together, probably because our society is designed to keep us apart, lest we might actually all be empowered.
- I used to care a lot about supporting environmental activism. Given my experience with the two-faced attitude of people who ALL gave ZERO support, i don’t give a shit anymore. We’re going to get exactly what we deserve. It’s the only way we MIGHT learn. (We’ll probably still blame it on “the system” and continue to retreat into our virtual reality spaces)
- But I’m very happy and optimistic about my life (the only thing I can control at all) The shit ain’t going to hit my fan, and I put in my effort and failed with no support. I’m fucking done. But deep down I still care about the young people, so I’m connecting with them and providing wisdom through the arts, and I’m making a big difference there. Far more than I ever could with my Engineering, Finance, Management, and Marketing skills—things very few people give a shit about. I’m doing what I can without wasting my time. I’m enjoying my life, and that’s good enough for me.
