I’m torn between whether I’m spending too much or too little time on social media. I can see how it wastes many people’s time — those who are addicted to it and have not spent time on other important things.
But for me (and many others) I have already spent much of my time learning new skills, starting a business, learning multiple crafts, etc. Now I’m focused on getting the word out (Ie marketing) on the work I’ve done and the projects I’m involved in. And short of spending a lot of money (which I’ve tried and it didn’t work) I’m told I need to push real hard on staying active in social media (to make keep my name out there, make new connections, so the algorithms presumably don’t put me at the bottom of the stack, etc ).
That means doing a lot more than I would otherwise do. My agent tells me I need to post more, comment more. It seems like an endless time sink. But is that not the cost of doing business, being an activist, being published, etc in our online world?
