In order for Mastadon to scale it requires engagement from the population. Social networks that scale are easy to use because organized people, who need to get paid, make it that way, and cater to people’s desire to be entertained. Unfortunately most people don’t want to put in the effort to understand the worlds and improve it for their children. One might conclude that democracy and our version of capitalism doesn’t work, but so far it’s still worked out better than the alternatives.
