No, online dating doesn’t help you to find out who you are, because you can’t tell people who you really are, otherwise they’ll have no interest because it will be too weird for them. They want to hear romantic banalities like I like wine, walking on the beach, manufactured romantic idealisms, all bullshit. You have to hide you really are, otherwise you’ll get ignored.

And no it does’t help your confidence, it hurts it. You have to take out all the interesting stuff about who you are, or worse case exaggerate it or lie to get people to respond to you, and that’s not the way to build confidence. Or if you take the other tactic and tell the truth, you’ll be ignored and get a daily reminder how much of a “loser” you are.

Stay away and don’t feed that monstrous machine, which takes the life out of alternative ways of meeting people in real life (eg events, parties, lectures, etc)
