Obvious this is not a one size fits all (Ie hybrid environment, depends on the nature of the job, how decentralized is the workforce, how difficult is it to find expertise). The problem I’ve seen is the companies are largely incompetent when it comes to designing workflow and understanding the soft side of management.

Especially HR who are universally incompetent. For example when my company was pushing people to come back into the office they didn’t take into account that during Covid we started having meeting with global teams and all kinds of hours to accommodate overlap of time zone. Very early morning meeting and often evening meetings. So if we come back into the office so we’re not going to have these meetings anymore? They didn’t even think about having local days (eg thu and fri) where people come into the office, and international days (eg mon, tues) where we have global meetings . They didn’t even think about it, they didn’t even bother to ask people to come up with ideas. This isn’t rocket science. So many managers are so unbelievably incompetent it’s hard to fathom.
