Really good analysis of GOT. In order to viscerally understand the tragedy of a character (and life) we have to care about them and route for and relate to them deeply over years, only to have them fail our expectations. That breaking of the hero Hollywood mold may be a legacy a GOT. It also reminds us that things don’t just work out for our “heros” including our own country, we need to work through the heartbreak of life and stay focused and engaged on what is “right”.

Also since we lost our key female character (not to mention Cersei to some) this pretty much cements the idea that Sansa or maybe even Arya ends up on the throne. I threw in Arya because Sansa did break her oath to John about secrecy of John’s heritage which probably led to the final straw in Danny’s meltdown through Tyrion.

Tyrion (my fav character) was the big fail here because he left Danny with nobody to trust — he was her Hand and he chose to release his brother, something Danny certainly found out about right before the battle. Why he would put tens of thousands of people at risk that led to their deaths and the ashes of the city to save a brother who betrayed him for a monster. That he was his only supporter when he was young, is not good enough. He should have known better than to leave his queen all alone, feeling betrayed in return for a scheme (to get Cersai to leave the city), something clearly not realistic. She needed to die by any measure. I was touched by his last conversation with Jamie, but it was still misplaced stupidity that may led to massive deaths and fire. (Or maybe Danny’s meltdown was inevitable? No i don’t buy that)

You could argue that Sansa was protecting John and the people from his own blind love and this justified breaking the oath, but this led to the death of so many people. But is that better than a Dany who might have became a tyrant. I guess we’ll never know. Arya is cleaner here as she didn’t break any oaths, but she hasn’t demonstrated being a ruler whereas Sansa has. So it’s probably Sansa if there is a resolution to her betrayal of Johns wishes. Unless of course he dies, or the Lord of Light takes away his resurrected from the dead status.

If a women doesn’t come out a leader, there will be hell to pay for sure.
