Some members of the trans community, in my opinion, have gone too far being uncompromising and disinterested in debating several complex topics that have given “right wing” folks tons of fodder to come after us. And this is being used, as you indicated, as a political tool.

For example:
1) Should trans woman be allowed to compete in COMPETITIVE women’s sports
2) Should we set a reasonable minimum age at which children should go on hormones

These are subject to debate on where you drawn the line, but they are legitimate points of debate. Our willingness to debate is a reflection on how people see us.

Of course many other people are not willing to debate. But regardless, we should always take the high road. Otherwise we may pat ourselves on the back thinking we’ve won a battle, but in reality, we lose in the long term.
