Take San Francisco, for example. There used to be an enormous number of interesting, alternative places to meet people, many LGBT. All of them are gone except for the gay clubs. People found it much easier to meet people online to bother to go out and meet people. And anecdotally, seems like less people are out joining clubs, going to parties, etc.
