Taxis in SF sucked, and they got what they deserved. They weren’t going to innovate, unless somebody like Uber came along and kicked their ass. Uber made life so much better for SF people.
That being said, they took it too far. Was it really necessary to drive down wages that much? Also it contributes to a lot of traffic - most of the Uber cars driving around are empty waiting for fairs..no optimization and the drivers pay for the empty cars and empty time. It’s also really hard to simply hail a cab when you’re in a dense area when you could easily one before.
But I must admit, life is still a lot better with Uber than without it for the average person. Is the city government capable of finding the right balance? No…they’re politicians.
