The many conservatives that I know who have been radicalized aren’t afraid as much as they feel irrelevant and are depressed. For example my good friend in Ohio is annoyed that the Obama Administration appeared more concerned with transgendered bathroom vs the economic plight of the Midwest.

There is a huge cultural divide caused by lack of interaction between various groups, that leads to a natural us vs them dynamic - facts are irrelevant.

How to solve that? I don’t know. But I do know that I really enjoy spending time with my friends in Ohio and the Sierra mountain country shooting guns and and flying small planes, even though I’m a “liberal” San Francisco transgendered person. And they enjoy hearing about what I’m up to, probably because we have mutual interest in each other’s lives, and enjoy each other’s company.
