The people that I know who went to the dark red side are driven mainly by isolation, depression, and feeling irrelevant, and are mostly older and financially in very good shape. They want to be heros to give them a sense of purpose. Simplest way to do this is find a reason to hate others (eg democrats, lgbt, abortion, etc) and they find the memes generated by the red team, Russian and Chinese troll farms, etc to be convenient. Religion is just one of many memes… well a top 5.

They have become addicts and are so far gone I don’t recognize them anymore. They don’t want to talk about or do anything else. It’s so easy to drink the koolaide to fill the void and salve their pain.

It’s not clear if social media is the disease or was an enabler to a weakness they always had to take the easy path to feeling good. I suspect the latter because I know plenty of similar people who did NOT drink the koolaide and remain balanced.

We’re fucked unless somebody comes along and finds a way to pierce through this. What I’m trying is sex, music, and entertainment. I was an engineer, lobbyist, serious writer, and this is where I feel I can have the most impact. How ironic. If you’re going to tell the truth better make it funny, entertaining, or kinky.
