The purpose of Lorem ipsem is mostly to avoid distracting people with real content. I've worked with many graphic designers and people who design brochures, marketing material, etc. You typically start with the layout, and you want to focus only on the layout and you don't want to see real text. Every marketing company I've worked with told me exactly the same thing.
