University education is a scam (I can assert this as somebody with a BS degree in Engineering and an MBA in Finance and Marketing, all from top Universities). It's overpriced, it's designed to put peopel into debt so it restricts young people's options, and they sell you on some BS about how you need to pay up to get access to the University Network. Which is in part true if you're looking into get into Wall Street Finance for example, or want to network with venture capitalists and do a startup. But it is largely untrue for most people - you get a better education at less expensive universities, even community colleges, in large part because the the professors at big universities are mostly interested in teachinng the theory around their research, must of which is cutting edge and largely irrelevant to the average person, or worse case complete BS.

So who's responsibility is it to recognize this and not fall for this massive grift? Some say "Caveat Emptor baby!". I tried to stop several family members and friends from sending their kids to an overpriced university, when the child would be much better going to a state school or community college, deciding what they want to do, and then transferring two years in, if their direction was more clear. Sadly, they all fell for the grift, and without even considering this, because they felt they couldn't do this because it wouldn't be fair to their child. Au contrare, but sadly, the grift is embedded in their DNA. And what did they end up? $100K in student debt and a job babysitting, and working retail.

I've managed many people throughout my career, and it is absoutely NOT true that the people from top universities are better or smarter workers. If anything, they're worse because their attitudes is extremely self centered, which is natural, becuase top universities are breeding grounds for a heiarchy of management control with the elites at the top, and these people have been focused on beating everybody else since they were in grade school (i.e. in order to get into an elite university - it's baked into their "DNA").

And I don't believe in forgiving too much student debt, otherwise you're using good tax payer money to reward grifters, i.e. the university system, by enabling them to suck money out of the rest of us, all while getting stronger and more powerful.

So whose responsibility is it to say NO to the grift? The same as whose reponsibility it is to not watch junk TV and extreme media. OUR INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY. That's a tall order, but the reality is that nobody else is goign to protect you.
