Why does almost every single comment or discussion about abortion (this post is a rare exception), not mention the basics about whether a woman has been raped or has health issues and when the abortion takes place (eg first trimester, first month etc)? As if it were a black and white issue.

It’s a simple question. People en masse cannot possibly be that stupid to not realize this. So there are a myriad of explanations many of which are scary because a logical analysis like the one proposed here will never be considered. I have really smart friends who are vehemently “pro life” (and post all the time about killing babies) even though in a personal conversation our actual views when we discuss the details (I’m “pro choice”) are almost identical.

This whole situation is so pathetic, it makes one feel hopeless about the human race, democracy, and possibly the very nature of intelligence and passionate beings. Maybe we do need to go the way of the Vulcans.
