Yes that is a major issue. When I was a lobbyist I could see first hand what we are up against. For example there are tons of regular open hearings around planning and setting policies for energy production. And you know who goes to these meetings? Lawyers and lobbyists paid by Utility and oil companies. They drive the policy because they show up on a regular basis and show up in droves. I once saw two young lawyers from the EDF (Environmental Defense Fund) show up to a few meetings, but they didn’t say one word during the meetings (probably too inexperienced).
The government officials are completely clueless and out of their league and they WANT engineers and scientists to show up, but they never do. Why? Because they have to get paid!!! And who is going to pay them? Nobody!!!
