Yes we certainly need Twitter or a replacement. But it’s difficult to replace it for all kinds of reasons (network effect, people are set up for it, feature set etc). But considering how untrustworthy Musk is (in terms of his political position and behavior mainly, and possibly the stability of the platform), alternatives should and will be considered. The two obvious ones:

1) Tik Tok - some claim this is already starting to replace Twitter. It of course it’s owned by the Chinese…
2) Mastadon - interesting, but works differently than Twitter. But it might be suitable? And various platforms have become dominant very quickly in the past, so it’s possible, and might turn out better than Twitter?…

Time will tell…
