You gotta wonder how much of this is caused by the grift which created the meme that you have to goto the "best" university because everybody else does. The expensive ones are overpriced scams. The only clearly measurable advantage that some of them have is the access to the name and network to find a job.

Scams create inefficient markets which results in students with huge debts working menial jobs. I personally know many such young folks. No matter how many times many of them we warned, they choose to follow the advice of the University Promoting grifters. And they screwed up their life.
